My Workout

February 12, 2010

Sorry guys, I was out of town helping a friend move, and didn’t get a chance to write up my next post. Today I want to throw my workout out there.

There is nothing special about my workout, but I figure I might as well include everything. I think working out is a smaller part of reaching your goals, diet is by far the most important. I am in and out of the gym as fast as possible. In fact, I did back and biceps today, and I was out of the gym in under 45 minutes. The girl at the front desk actually said, “What? You’re done already?”

I really don’t think it should take that long to get your workout in. When I was younger I would be in the gym 1-1.5 hours per day, and the truth is, I’ve probably made more progress on my physique over the last few years than I have in the 7-8 years before that… and I’m not even trying to add on mass.

I usually train alone, unless I’m helping someone, then I have a full time spot, which is great. But one day, I worked out with a good friend of mine, who is in very good shape. gym rat treadmillWe trained chest together. Well half way into our forth exercise, I was done, exhausted. My friend went on to do TWO more exercises, and then did CARDIO on top of that!

I am not a gym rat, I like quick efficient workouts. I’ve added my workout up top, as a regular part of the site, and you can also click here. Over the last six months I’ve experienced a few serious injuries, so I’m just getting back into things. I haven’t been able to work out my shoulders in five months now(dislocated one shoulder and bruised the other), and I’ve been doing legs for three weeks now after taking four months off (bad ankle sprain still not 100%).

I’m here regular now, you won’t see so many days between posts again.

I eat chicken almost every day. Often twice a day. The truth is, I barely even put any seasoning on it.

I will either put a bit of seasoning salt on it, or lemon and pepper. I’ll admit after months and months, it’s not to die for delicious(!), but it’s quick, easy, and I don’t have to choke it down (so it must be okay! lol).

The truth is, I used to get so sick of chicken. I would always over cook it. If it seemed a bit pink or ‘too’ juicy, I would put it back on, often dry it out and over cook it. Then I end up chewing it for what seems like forever, and have a hard time swallowing it. Then I cringe at the fact that I have about five more chicken breasts to eat over the next day or two. I’ve always had the fear of under cooking it, and getting salmonella… which is a little more rare then what it’s made out to be.

90% of the time, I cook on my gas grill. Even in -20 degrees, I’ll start it up and grill. I got natural gas hooked up so I never have to worry about running out of propane! On the rare occassions it’s really cold, I will use my Foreman grill, which is great, but a pain to clean.

But in my opinion, the key to having chicken you can eat all the time, is cooking to the right temperature.

Thermometer

Wireless Thermometer

I received a wireless thermometer for Christmas one year, and it was one of the best presents I’ve ever received. It was like night and day once I started using it. The chicken is always juicy, and I know it’s fully cooked. The best part is, you don’t have to keep going outside, you can stay warm inside and keep track of it on the monitor.

Amazon.com has several ones you can order online. Or you can go to your local Home Depot, or something similar.

Just wanted to share this quick tip. It’s a great investment, and very affordable. I’m working on my workout routine which I will post up Sunday/Monday.

Thanks for the emails so far!

I wanted to have this up earlier, but it actually took me quite a long time to write! I’m sure I missed some things out, and I’ll add to it as different issues are brought up. I’m not a professional writer, so bear with me!
I’ve tried several different diets so I could get an idea [...]

Thank you for being one of the first visitors to my site! I am going to have a regular blog about my diet, training, ideas, etc. I don’t have the same ‘old school’ approach on everything, I like to think outside the box. I don’t claim to know everything, but I get asked for help, [...]
